Thaw-out Series RecapRace #1, April 1st 2017 All week long there was the prediction of a spring storm hitting Cherry Creek on race day. Sure enough, Saturday had a high of 39 degrees with a rain and snow mix filtering down on Cherry Creek Reservoir all morning . Lack of participation made it an easy call for race committee crew (Julie Rist, Curtis Rist and Tom Downing) to cancel the festivities for the day. Next Saturday will be better as warmth and breezes will be coming our way. Race #2, April 8th 2017 A beautiful day dawned for the year's first race of the season. All was go except for the committee boat not being able to start. With superior effort from Commodore Glenn and RC PRO Ed Dupont; they were able to diagnose the problem, run over to West Marine to buy replacement gas lines and had the committee boat up and running before 1300 hours. In light shifting winds race committee (Ed Dupont, Glenn Hackemer and Dan May) set a course of 2-6 and four boats (2 Santana 20's, Evelyn 25, and the E-Scow) set-off in a slow but steady race. As winds picked up 2 Lightnings joined the group for a second race (7-finish) that was a tad bit faster. As 4:00 pm approached the sailors had enough for the fist shake out race of the year. More nice weather is expected for next Saturday.
